BioRxiv Update: Spatial Scrambling and Letter Identification

Table of Contents

Version 2 of our BioRxiv preprint is now online: Identification of letters distorted by physiologically-inspired spatial scrambling.

This work studies how positional disorganization between early visual processing stages affects letter identification. Using wavelet-based stimuli that simulate subcortical and cortical scrambling, we compared human performance with convolutional neural network benchmarks and found distinct efficiency patterns for the two forms of scrambling. The updated preprint is authored by Xingqi R. Zhu and Alex S. Baldwin.
