BioRxiv Preprint: Amblyopic Acuity and Spatial Scrambling

Our preprint is now available on BioRxiv: The amblyopic acuity deficit: impact on the identification of letters distorted by spatial scrambling algorithms.
This is the full study behind the VSS 2025 abstract. Using bandpass letters affected by cortical or subcortical spatial scrambling, we investigated whether the amblyopic eye shows differential sensitivity to scrambling compared to the fellow eye. We find that scrambled stimuli interrogate a functionally distinct component of amblyopic vision from conventional contrast noise masking, and that the pattern of letter identification mistakes under scrambling correlates with the severity of the acuity deficit.
